The Brief
The client wanted to renovate their existing kitchen to improve both functionality and finish, while working within a tight budget. As they would be living in the flat throughout the renovation, the project also required careful planning, clear communication, and a respectful approach to minimise disruption.
Before
The original kitchen was dated and no longer met the client’s needs in terms of layout or usability. Budget constraints meant the space needed to be carefully redesigned to make the most of the available units and fittings. During the early stages, an unexpected issue arose when the kitchen supplier incorrectly measured the units, creating a potential delay and layout problem.
The Solution
Shaun and the Norton & Nevin team worked closely with the client to redesign the kitchen layout on-site, ensuring the new units could still be installed effectively without compromising the overall design. The team also liaised with the supplier to secure a refund for unused fixtures, helping the client stay within budget.
Throughout the project, regular updates were provided, and the team remained professional and considerate while the client continued to live in the property. Attention to detail was maintained at every stage, from installation through to finishing touches.

We had Norton & Nevin renovate our kitchen and we couldn’t have been happier with his work. We were on a tight budget and Shaun worked with us so we could make the most of it. Shaun and his team were highly professional, giving us regular updates and being respectful of our space as we continued to live in the flat during the renovations. Shaun and his team were also able to deal with unexpected problems; there had been a mistake from the kitchen supplier in measuring the units, and we were able to work with the team to reconfigure the layout to make it work - and he even got us a refund on the unused fixtures. I have been a client of Norton and Nevin for a number of years now and have used the company for different projects both in my own home and also at a number of investment properties I own and I cannot recommend them highly enough. The company and the people it employs - are knowledgeable, hard working, conscientious and always helpful and friendly. Fire Damage Refurbishment – Hackney Flat
Before:
The Hackney property suffered significant fire damage, leaving the flat with extensive smoke and structural damage. Walls, ceilings, and flooring were heavily affected, with the kitchen and living areas requiring full restoration. Safety concerns and damaged wiring made the property uninhabitable, and the client needed a trusted contractor to manage the complete refurbishment.
After:
Our team carefully assessed the damage and created a full refurbishment plan. The flat was restored from the ground up, including repairing structural elements, replacing damaged flooring, repainting walls and ceilings, and installing a fully renovated kitchen and bathroom.
